WOD for Iphone – CrossFit logging app

log
Took awhile but there’s finally a really solid Iphone app for CrossFitters looking to log their workouts and record their personal records. “As Rx’ed” was the first really full featured CrossFit logging app, but I found that entering custom workouts was cumbersome and eventually stopped using it. You had to enter in each individual movement, the reps, the weight, etc… all with scrollers and form fields. It was a lot of work to get an ad hoc workout logged. Imagine having to go through and enter a workout like filthy fifty one movement at a time. Most people just wouldn’t bother.

WOD for Iphone though, went the obvious and overlooked route of just providing a text field for workout details. wodentryCrossFit workouts are sometimes just too complex to enter in one movement at a time with a series of form fields, it just makes sense to have the ability to copy and paste a workout from your affiliate’s blog into a text field and then all the program has to do is record your score, date, rx’ed or not, pr or not.

Even better though is that this morning I woke up to find an update with the one feature that had been missing and that I had been hoping for, an RSS feed. So now I don’t even have to copy and paste from the American River CrossFit blog, I just enter the feed into the settings, and everyday in my workout list, I can choose to add my affiliate’s workout to my log. Just enter my score, rx’ed, and/or personal record and I’m done. workouts And it should be given that all the benchmark WOD’s are in there and easily loggable as well. The logs all then populate a very readable scrolling page.

It’s also got a really slick interface for adding personal records on movements and milestones. In this case, it makes sense to choose from a list since it’s usually a single movement that you’re logging. Once you’ve chosen your movement, lift, or milestone you enter any details as you would on a WOD. The results show in a “records” log and clicking onto the record log displays you’re history of records for the chosen movement.

Not a lot of bells and whistles on this one, no timer, no real analytics, just a really solid iphone replacement for your spiral notebook. So far, it’s been super fast and bug free. Definite must buy at $1.99 at the app store for any CrossFitter. App Store Link.

Thanks, Josh! I bought the app this morning.

Um.. will you show me how to add ARCFit’s WOD to the apps? I’ll be in class Thursday afternoon. You can also get my e-mail and number from Chad. Thanks, Josh.

Thanks Josh, this is super cool and I just bought it this morning too. I have the same question as Aims, above; can’t quite figure out how to get ARCFit’s WOD into the settings…

    Thanks!

cool. glad you guys got it. to get the feed, open up settings from the home screen of your iphone (not from the WOD app), once in settings, go to WOD (scroll all the way to the bottom of the settings screen). For the RSS url, enter in:

    http://americanrivercrossfit.com/?feed=rss2

because of how it scores, it would also work well for MMAHITFIT workouts, that feed is:

    http://mmahitfit.com/?feed=rss2

unfortunately, you can only choose one so you have to pledge your allegiance to one program or another.

Thanks, Josh. It’s awesome! I had another question… Is there any way you can access past wods on the ARCFit website? For example… If I won’t be able to do today’s wod but I want to do it tomorrow, will I be able to access and input the info onto the app?

  6. Doug Storer says:

    Thanks Josh. That is fantastic.

@aims: that’s one small criticism i have of the app and was going to shoot the developer a note to see if he can add an option in the settings to display multiple entries from an affiliate.

for now, there are a couple ways around it. you can log the workout today with a bogus score and then bring it up tomorrow when you do the workout and edit it.

or, you can go to the blog tomorrow, copy the wod from the blog post and then go to the wod app and add a new workout with the “+” button and paste in the workout that way. adding a workout with the “+” button lets you just enter in all the details of a workout yourself.

Wow i have no idea what you people are talking about. Im taking my old ass nokia and going home.

  9. Aims says:

    Haha! Too funny, Randy. :)

  10. Chad says:

LOL! Randy Im with you bro, this shit is like reading Chinese. Never tried reading CHinese but you get my point. I would like to learn though.

  11. Aims says:

Hi again.. For today’s wod.. When I try to save, it is only showing the beginning text entry on the back squat. I try and delete some text afterwards but the rest of the text (and wod) do not populate. Am I doing something incorrectly?

  12. admin says:

that’s actually a limitation of RSS which is the technology that feeds in the blog entry. it only allows a certain number of characters and the rest just get cut off.

i was going to suggest to chad that he post the WOD at the top of the post so that it always shows up in the feed. if he starts doing that, it won’t be a problem.

  13. Aims says:

Thanks, Josh. Um.. I have 2 more questions. When I saved the ARCFit logo onto my home screen awhile ago.. it gave me a cute widget with the ARCFit logo. Bomba tried to do it on his iPhone recently and it didn’t work. The Sac Strength and MMAHITFIT sites don’t have them either. The Crossfit main site has one of pukie. Is this something you can change? Not a big deal.. it’s just cuter to have an official widget.

  14. admin says:

hah, yeah, i can figure that out. hadn’t even thought of it, but i’ll make it happen.

  15. Randy says:

    Domo arigato mr roboto????
